French/Polish Officers Lance Chapska
Tag that came with the Chapska reads "Napoleonic Officer's Cold weather Lancer cap of the Imperial Guard Lancer Regiment". It is possible as the the 1st Polish Light Cavalry Lancers Regiment was part of the Imperial guard. 1814-1815, as this is a Polish Chapska, but our research could not confirm this. Lancers Foul Weather Officer’s Lance Cap, light weight black leather covered helmet having gilt metal Polish style lions head side bosses with clover leaf design holding cloth backed linked gilt brass chin chain. Backing is a later replacement. Leather covered dome fitting to represent the rosette. Two crossed leather laces in the front, a small brass lions head with ring is attached to the rear corner of the crown, again Polish design. Interior has the leather sweatband showing age wear. Silk lining is gone. Leather visor has brass trim. Overall very good condition. From the Joe Musso Collection.
