Cal. 56-46 Spencer. S# 11309. Bbl. 34" tapered octagon. Top flat is marked "G.W. HARDER / TYRONE, PA". German silver blade Rocky Mountain front sight with fixed V notch rear sight. Front receiver ring is marked "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS / PAT.D MARCH, 6, 1860." Left side of action has bar only with saddle ring removed. Walnut sporter forend measures 10 5/8". Original straight grip walnut stock with wood filler in swivel base slot. 7 round tubular mag. loads through steel buttplate. "American Gunsmiths" by Frank Sellers lists the following: "HARDER, GEORGE WASHINGTON, (1852-1930). Tyrone, Pennsylvania, 1876-1885, Williamsport, Pennsylvania, 1855-1890d. Son of Jacob Harder. Percussion and cartridge rifles. (MB 12-44)". Weight: 10 lbs., 14.8 oz. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to mottled gray/brown patina showing heavy dents on left barrel flat with smaller dents on right side of action. Forearm has lightly worn finish showing scratches and marks. Refinished stock shows numerous scratches, dents and marks with cracks and chips around lock plate. Dark lightly pitted bore with deep rifling. (01-21344/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-4,000.
