RIFLE FITTED WITH ZF41/1 TELESCOPE (SHARPSHOOTER). Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 18207. Bbl. 23 5/8". All visible numbers match. These rifles were produced by equipping approx. 6% of standard Model 98K production w/ a dovetailed rear sight base for the ZF41 series long eye relief telescopic sights. These rifles were intended for use by line troops & not for the dedicated sniping role but were used for that purpose at times. Rifle marked on the receiver ring with "Mod 98" "byf" "45". Right side of receiver has indistinct eagle acceptance mark. Left side of receiver & bbl. has German eagle proofs. Bbl. is additionally marked w/ "byf" in shield & bbl. code "44E38" w/ "eagle 135". Markings enhanced in white. Rear sight & base are unmarked. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000m. Inverted V front sight w/ protective hood. Cleaning rod & bayonet bar are present. Stamped welded bands retained by single spring. Stamped "byf" marked trigger guard & floorplate. Unmarked laminated stock set w/ steel disassembly disk & cup type buttplate. Correct WWII German sling. Grooved dovetail on the left side of rear sight base. Scope marked "ZF 41-1" "dow" indicating manufactured at Opticotechna, Prerau (Czechoslovakia). Scope S# is 16769 made with sharp pointed post reticle w/ horizontal cross bars. Scope has sheet metal rain shields. Blued steel base w/ tapered steel rollers. Base marked on rear leg w/ "duv" & "eagle 214"; also marked "K98K-Zf.41". CONDITION: stock set has worn original finish w/ scattered dents & handling marks throughout. Metal has lightly worn gray finish. Upper band has notable gray phosphate coloration. Very good shiny bore. Telescope mt. has very lg. percentage of original blue w/ light high point wear. Original finish telescope is more notably worn than mt. w/ scratches & scattered handling marks. Optics appear clear & serviceable although lenses have several moderate side spots.
