BY SMITH. Cal. 67. NSN. Bbls. 6" slightly tapered oct. w/ bridled steel ramrods are engraved "LONDON" on top flats. Patent breeches are nicely filed, but unvented. Breech irons have integral "V" notch rear sights & are scroll engraved. Front spring locks w/ flat faced serpentine hammers fitted w/ sliding safeties that engage at half cock. Locks & hammers are scroll engraved & locks engraved w/ maker's name "SMITH" (There were a number of gun makers named Smith active in London during the 1830's-1840's when these guns were made). Dense European walnut stocks extend to w/in 3/4" of muzzles & attach to bbls. w/ single captive side bolts through silver oval escutcheons. Furniture is of iron & consists of trigger guards w/ stylized pineapple finials & sm. grip caps w/ short spurs on checkered bag grips. Vacant silver crest plates are at tops of grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pistols are housed in what appears to be their original oak case w/ flush mounted "D" ring handle & pivoting hook closure. Case is lined in pilled green beige. Central compartment holds 3 cavity copper & brass combination powder flask, ball & cap mag. Other accessories include steel nutcracker style ball mold marked for 17 bore, a sm. pewter oil bottle by Hawksley, & loading rod w/ worm under jag tip. 2 Compartments w/ bone knob covers hold a Eley cap tin & 3 rnd. balls. CONDITION: good to fine w/ evidence of some heavy cleaning; most noticeably on bbls. w/ finish removed, now darkening. Locks retain a considerable amount of case hardening color. Trigger guards have most of their original bright blue. All metal parts have some scattered deep rusting. Stocks are very fine, retaining nearly all of their smooth oil finish w/ scattered marks & dings. There is a 1" crack on forend of one pistol running forward diagonally from front part of escutcheon. Bores are pitted & cleaned. Locks are crisp. Safeties operable. Case retains most of what appears to be original finish w/ oil rubbed in over numerous marks & scratches. Original interior cloth is fine w/ rub marks & some discoloration. Accessories are generally fine. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19674(2)/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
