GAME SHOTGUN AS FOUND. Cal. 12 Bore 2-5/8". S# 37143. The 26" dovetailed barrels with narrow matted game rib are marked with VL&D info and "U.S. Agents New-York" on tops. Barrel flats are stamped with pre-1921 Belgian nitro proofs and Francotte info. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with steel info and "2-5/8"". Case hardened side plated boxlock action features automatic safety, crossbolt third fastener, side clips and double triggers. Action is engraved in usual 20 quality style with about 80% coverage well cut scroll. Fences are semi-relief engraved with acanthus. Each lockplate is engraved "A. Francotte Maker & Patentee Liege Belgium". Blued trigger guard with scroll on bow has S# on tang. Very finely marbled European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4" over serrated horn buttplate. Closely space point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .728. R .727. Restriction: L .031 (full). R .008 (IC). Wall thickness: L .032. R .032. STOCK: DAH: 2". DAC: 1-1/4". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14-1/4". WEIGHT: 6 lb. 5 oz. CONDITION: very fine as found. Barrels retaining over 90% original blue with a fair scattering of marks and dings. Action and sideplates retain about 70% original case color, considerably silvered on bottom and fences. Stocks retain most of their original oil finish with many marks, dings and scratches, a few are fairly deep, finish is quite dry. Bores are shiny with some frosting evident in left barrel which also shows a minor dent a 11" from muzzle. Action is tight. Ejectors slightly out of time. This closet queen retailed for $300 in 1933.
