GOOD MID 18TH CENTURY FOUR BAND GERMAN (HESSIAN)
FLINTLOCK MUSKET. Cal. 75. NSN. Unmarked 42 1/2" bbl. has bayonet lug at bottom near muzzle. Lock w/ slightly arched & rounded plate is fitted w/ rnd. bodied serpentine cock, bridled friction frizzen & lg. feather spring w/ bulbous finial. Area under pan engraved in script "Fc. Dehaaz", "A'Dort"(mund, a town to the east of Essen). Walnut stock w/ later style short fluted comb extends to w/ in 3 1/2" of muzzle & is retained by 4 brass bands. Rear 3 are friction fit & nose band has spring retainer. All 4 bands are stamped w/ the same marker's mark "IH". Stock has raised carved fields around lockplate, top tang & serpentine sideplate. Brass buttplate has 4" spear top tang. Brass trigger guard has simple elongated finials. Escutcheon plate on top of grip is unmarked. Flared steel ramrod appears to be original. CONDITION: fine. Bbl. & lock w/ even dark brown patina. w/ a deeper pitting only near touch hole of bbl. Brass furniture toned dark brown w/ hand worn golden highlights. Stock is sound w/ hand worn areas on old finish w/ some very minor losses at top of lockplate & along left bbl. channel. Lock is operable. A very presentable Revolutionary War musket.
