HOLSTER PISTOLS BY S. CODDINGTON OF STAMFORD. Cal. 62. NSN. Bbls. 9". Vents are gold lined. Top flats w/ engraved loops at front engraved “STAMFORD”. London gun maker’s proofs & bbl. maker’s mark “TK” are on top left. Tops of bbls. stamped w/ CA 1838 Irish Derry Constabulary registration marks “DC2707” & “DC2708”. Mid-18th century style locks w/ chamfered flat plates having long tails fitted w/ serpentine cocks, integral pans, bridled frizzens & feather springs w/ attenuated finials having bulbous heads & lg. teats. Locks, hammers & cocks engraved w/ lg. scroll w/ in line & geometric borders. “S CODDINGTON” is on scrolled ribbon on each plate. European walnut stocks extend to muzzles & are pinned to bbls. Raised fields are on lock & sideplates. Carved shells are behind bbl. tangs. Pistols are fully silver mounted w/ grotesque mask butt caps, fancy, non hallmarked, relief cast armorial sideplates w/ flags & trigger guards w/ relief cast acorn finials. Crest plates at top of grips are quite fancy w/ engraving plate surrounded by cannons & flags at bottom & steel helmets at top. Hickory ramrods w/ horn tips (worm tails) are held by beaded single pipes & matching thimbles. CONDITION: iron parts, except for frizzens & feather springs, are silver plated & retain nearly all of that plating w/ some scratches.
