SIMSON WITH ZEISS SCOPE. Cal. 16 Ga., 2 3/4" / 7x57R. S# 985280. Bbls. 24 1/4" are fitted with claw scope bases, popup U-notch rear and silver bead front sights in full length matted rib. Tops of bbls. are marked with steel type and “SIMSON SUHL” “MADE IN GDR”. Bottoms of bbls. are stamped with East German Nitro proofs for 16 2 3/4" and 7x57R cartridge with a date of January ’79. French gray blitz swept back action features rifle selector on top tang, Greener type side safety, pin type cocking indicators, crossbolt third fastener, sideclips and double triggers (front set). Action is engraved with about 70% coverage splashes of simple scroll and some whorls of well cut shaded scroll. This surrounds inset panels depicting game on sides with roaring stag in open woodlands on left and two quacking ducks rising from swamp on right. Bottom of action is stamped with Suhl blacksmith logo. Blued trigger guard has scroll on bow. Well streaked European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 15" over open sided brown “Whiteline” type pad fitted to original curve. Stock also features slight hogback to comb, shadowline right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering and an aftermarket cartridge trap, partially affixed by sling eye on toeline. Cartridge trap is engraved with matching scroll and with name “W. Cordon”. Drilling is equipped with Zeiss Diatal-Z 6x rail scope with crosshair and 3 post reticle in claw mounts, rear with windage. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .669", L .670". Restriction: R .025" (MOD), L .033" (FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: R .022", L .032". STOCK: DAH: 2 7/8". DAC: 1 1/2". LOP: 15". CONDITION: very fine, bbls. retaining over 95% original blue with a few light marks and some freckling. Action retains nearly all of its French gray finish with some darkening and discoloration mostly on bottom. Trigger guard retains over 85% original blue. Stocks retain most of their original finish with some scattered marks, some loss of finish on butt with installation of newer cartridge trap. Pad is a later replacement. Bores are bright and shiny. Action is tight. Mechanically fine. Scope has a few minor marks and scratches in its original lacquer. Optically clear. A fine attractive drilling. (22-4890/MGM). MODERN. $2,000-3,000.
