GOOD QUALITY SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAMEGUN BY O.
GEYGER WITH PURDEY/BEESLEY SELF OPENING ACTION. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 10720. The 30" dovetailed bbls. are fitted with slightly raised flat matted rib engraved "2" at breech end; "2" also appears on top lever and forend iron, indicating this gun was the second gun of a pair. Retailer's name and address are engraved on tops of bbls. Bbl. flats stamped with Imperial German Nitro proofs for 12 Ga. without date. Coin finished sidelock action features non automatic safety ("SICHER" inlaid in gold), hidden third fastener, bushed strikers, arrowhead tumbler end cocking indicators and double triggers (front articulated). Interior inspections reveal locks are indeed of Purdey type and ejector system is also similar to the famous Wem ejector used on Purdey guns; drop is replaceable. Action and lockplates are engraved with about 80% coverage nicely cut scroll surrounding small rose bouquets, all within small scroll, geometric and floral borders. "O. Geyger & Co. Berlin" is on each lockplate. Geyger number "2786" is on top of action in front of top lever. Trigger guard is horn. Horn capped pistol grip buttstock of well fiddle figured and nicely marbled European walnut measures 14 1/4" over solid brown basketweave "Pachmayr" pad. Stock features shadowline right hand cheekpiece, point pattern grip checkering and a sling loop matching the one screwed to bottom rib. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .720", L .720". Restriction: R .010" (IC), L .023" (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .030", L .030". STOCK: DAH: 2 9/16. DAC: 1 1/2". LOP: 14 1/4". CAST: very slightly off. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 14 oz. CONDITION: very good as refinished, bbls. retaining about 90% reblue with some sharp edge wear and a few light marks. Action is cleaned to coin finish. Engraving remains good with traces of remaining case hardening color on floorplate and under top lever. Stocks retain nearly all of an oil refinish with a few scattered marks. Checkering shows considerable wear and has not been recut. Horn of trigger guard remains good without damage. Bores are bright and shiny with some leading in right bbl. Action is tight, bbls. are off face. Drop is good. Mechanically good. An interesting German gun, possibly actually built by Purdey. (22-4509/MGM). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
