SHOTGUN WITH ORIGINAL CASE. Cal. 12 Ga., 2". S# 14378 ( Mfg. 1941). The 27" dovetailed bbls. are engraved "William Powell & Son 25 Carr's Lane, Birmingham" on narrow swamped game ribs. Tops of bbls. are engraved "FOR 2 INCH CASE ONLY". Bbl. flats stamped w/ Birmingham nitro proofs for 2" chambers & 7/8 oz. of shot. S# is on bottom of both bbls. Case hardened boxlock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold) & dbl. triggers. Action engraved w/ about 60% coverage well cut scroll w/in line & scroll borders. Maker's name is on each side. Blued top lever, floorplate & trigger guard are engraved w/ matching scroll. S# is on trigger guard tang. Attractively figured & well marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 3/8" over ribbed wood butt. Closely spaced flat top point pattern checkering w/ mullered borders is at grip & a vacant gold oval is on toeline. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: bbls.: bore diameter: right: .731", left: .731". Restriction: right: .010" (IC), left .021" (MOD). Minimum Wall Thickness: right: .022", left: .021". STOCK: DAH: 1 15/16". DAC: 1 1/2". LOP: 14 3/8". CAST: 3/16". WEIGHT: 5 lbs. 7 oz. (matches all specifications outlined in factory ledger). UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: photocopy of factory ledger. Gun housed in its original brown leather case w/ brass corners. Rectangular leather label on top is embossed "RAE-Heathcote" (matching factory records). Interior is lined in burgundy cloth & has paper William Powel label & charge card in lid. Charge card marked in indian ink "2 inch cartridge" & w/ suggested loads. Case contains Powell-marked rnd. oil bottle and horn bodied snap caps, an unmarked ebony & brass ramrod is present along w/ the key. CONDITION: very good to fine as partially refinished. Bbls. retaining nearly all of best reblack. Action retains about 40% original case hardening color. Remainder faded to silver gray. Secondary blued parts retain over 70% of their original blue, probably a bit less on trigger guard w/ considerable loss on tang & sides of bow. Stocks retain nearly all of a good quality oil refinish over some light marks & a few subsequent marks. Checkering has not been recut, although mullering has been redone on buttstock. Bores are bright & shiny w/ no visible evidence of dents or repairs. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are in time. Case leather is beginning to darken & has considerable rubs on edges & marks overall. Interior cloth is very good w/ compressions & soiling. Partitions are solid. Powell label is very fine except foxed as is charge card. (21-4036/MGM). CURIO. $3,000-5,000.
