GRANDFATHER. This group contains medals & insignia belonging to Lt. Col. Jack Westerman, who served in WWII through Vietnam. He was a Mustang Officer and earned 5 Purple Hearts during his career. Medals include the Navy Cross, the Legion of Merit with “V”, Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign, WWII Victory, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, National Defense, Philippine Liberation, Armed Forces Expeditionary, Army of Occupation, Korean Service, UN Korean Service, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Gallantry Citation, & Vietnam Campaign Medal. All medals are represented in a 7-row medal bar, also included. The lot further includes rank insignia for 2nd Lt., 1st Lt., Captain Major & Lt. Col. There is an Expert Rifleman Badge rounding out this fine group. There are 6 enlarged photographs of Westerman in Vietnam, receiving medals. A pair of high black uniform pull-on boots. There are several citations included with the lot, and an award document for the Legion of Merit. Also of interest is a group of WWII insignia & gear from Westerman's grandfather. This group includes a pair of enlisted pants, a small bread bag, German match safe, discharge papers from 1918, a German cigarette case with early Camel cigarettes, a WWI Victory Medal, & various WWI insignia.
