GROUP OF 3 CARTRIDGE CASES.
Lot consists of: 1) Large leather cartridge case produced by Purdey in London. Exterior of lid is marked "L. J. TYTUS", with a Purdey label on the red velvet interior. Interior of case retains a period 5-cell metal cartridge sleeve that is painted yellow. CONDITION: case exhibits wear with areas of staining and discoloration overall. Latch has torn from lid, but is present in the lock. Lid straps have torn off and are no longer present. Brass accoutrements exhibit patina overall. Metal cartridge sleeve exhibits some dents, with flaking to the painted finish, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable retaining its leather pull straps in each of the cartridge cells. 2) Leather cartridge case produced by James Woodward & Sons of London. Exterior of lid is embossed with a single "W" with the red velvet interior retaining its James Woodward & Sons label. Interior of case exhibits 5 cartridge cells and retains its leather pull tabs. Handle and 2 of the brass lid corner pieces have come off, but are present within the case. CONDITION: case exhibits wear with areas of staining and discoloration overall, that are especially present on the lid. Lid strap retaining straps are torn on one side. Brass accoutrements exhibit a patina overall. 3) Small green canvas cartridge box produced by an unknown manufacturer. Green canvas exterior with leather pads on corners of lid and case body. Interior of case features 2 large cartridge cells and a green felt lining. CONDITION: good overall with some exterior wear, staining and areas of discoloration. Brass accoutrements exhibit a some mild discoloration and patina. A nice grouping of cartridge cases that would be suitable examples for restoration. (02-19942-1/MLW). $500-1000.
