General Officer's named 2nd Pattern F-S (Fairbairn-Sykes) Fighting Knife, by Wilkinson Sword, London, with 6-3/4'' blade, 11-3/4'' overall, with knurled blackened brass handle; bright blade acid etched with Wilkinson Sword and F-S logo, as well as the name ''Walter R. Peck'' acid etched in personalized riband style. Walter R. Peck (1896-1965) attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from 1916-1917, was a Philippine Scout in 1918, and entered the Air Service in 1921. In Sept. 1943 he was made Commanding General of the Combat Crew Replacement Group in England, and in May 1944 was assigned to command the 96th Bomb Wing there. Gen. Peck was awarded the Legion of Merit, Silver Star, two Distinquished Flying Crosses, Bronze Star medal and two Air medals. He was rated a Command Pilot, Combat Observer and Aircraft Observer. Condition is near excellent with light carbon spotting to blade, slightly more pronounced to hilt. Nice clear markings, with minor thinning to finish on grip. Scabbard is a somewhat later replacement. Est.: $500-$750.
