Model 71 Deluxe .348 Win SN: 2123 Extraordinary factory engraved lever action repeating rifle chambered in .348 Winchester. Manufactured circa 1936 with the engraving executed by factory master engraver Alden George Ulrich, the last member of the Ulrich engraving dynasty, in 1941. Includes a factory letter that reads "Ordered: November 12, 1941/ For: Abercrombie and Fitch Company of New York, Consignment/ Ordered as:/ Symbol: G7100C/ Grade: Custom built/ Caliber: .348 Winchester/ Barrel Type: Round/ Barrel Length: 24 inches/ Fancy, Checkered stock and forearm/ Engraved/ Cheek Piece/ Metal butt plate, Engraved/ Peep sight/ Use gun #2123/ To Pack: November 22, 1941". Fine Germanic scroll engraving is found on nearly all of the major metal parts with ribboned scroll & game scenes on the receiver flats; to include a relief buck & doe mule deer in woodland scene on the left side and relief mountain lion perched on a tree branch on the right. Configuration: blued finish, 24" round barrel, 2/3 length magazine tube, ramped & hooded blade front sight with bead top, blank inserted into the rear sight dovetail, adjustable peep sight mounted on the bolt, knurled trigger, knurled hammer spur, curved finger lever, point checkered extra fancy walnut semi-beavertail forend, steel forend cap with dovetailed sling swivel stud, and pistol grip shoulder stock with beaded right handed cheekpiece, inletted sling swivel stud, engraved steel grip cap & knurled steel buttplate. Also includes a letter from Pauline Muerrle, Winchester Factory Engraver, Aurthor & Historian, that states "This gun was engraved by Winchester factory engraver, George Ulrich. It is an excellent example of his work and one of the nicest factory engraved Model 71s that I have seen." Rifle exhibits approximately 99% of it's original blued finish showing very little wear and a minute amount of pin prick pitting on the top/right side of the barrel approximately 9.5" from the muzzle. Action is smooth, the bore is excellent, markings are clear and the near exhibition grade wood stocks are near fine with light finish loss & a few small blemishes. A magnificent rifle to behold!
