36.5& #34; two edged spear point blade. Center fuller with Armorers marks. Iron pommel, with steel wire wrapped handle. Side guard with pieced plates, a thumb ring is on the inner circle. A good Continental European military broadsword of so-called Walloon type circa 1640. The quillion struck with a maker’s mark in good overall condition. Swords of this type were carried by military officers in the armies of the Netherlands, Scandinavian countries and others and are an essential feature in any collection of 17th century European arms and armorr. Overall smooth dark metal with some staining. Very good example of this rare sword.
