serial #4891, 8.15x46R, 29 3/4'' octagon barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing a little mild oxidation nearer the muzzle and otherwise crisp rifling throughout. The barrel retains about 90% original blue with some thinning to gray and most of the loss due to some scattered light oxidation. The matted top flat is grooved at the rear and shows retailer marking of A. Dickore of Giessen. The action retains about 85% nice vibrant case-hardened colors with some drifting to a pleasant smooth smoky gray along the right side and lever, also showing some mild gray-brown oxidation speckling. The action is rather unusually unadorned with just some matting along the receiver ring bordering the ''SYST. FROHN / MOD. 1903'' marking and a little border motif along the barrel shank. The checkered walnut buttstock and smooth forend remain in very fine condition with strong original oil finish, some scattered light dings and the most noticeable apology being an area of small abrasions along the left side rear of checkering below the cheekpiece. The forend tip and edge of the right-side thumb rest show nice foliate carving and the stock features a generous left-side ramshorn cheekpiece. There is a small decorative brass chrysanthemum tacked along the toe and the rifle is sighted with its original adjustable tang sight with medium aperture disc stamp-numbered to the gun and protected bead-on-post ramp front. The action with double set triggers seems to function well mechanically. A nice rifle for someone who prefers a plainer appearance. (13B11108-37) {C&R} [Tom Devers Collection] (1800/2200)
