RIGBY TYPE RISING BITE THIRD FASTENER BY CARL GRUNDIG. Cal. 16 Ga. 2-9/16"/8x57JR (.318 bore). S# 13686. The 27" demi-bloc barrels are fitted with full length matted rib holding one folding leaf rear and silver bead front sights. Claw scope bases for an offset scope are dovetailed through rear portion of rib which has broad extension to accept rising bite third fastener. Sides of top barrel are engraved with maker's name and "Dresden". Barrel flats and bottoms of barrels are stamped with May 1924 German proofs. Case hardened scalloped boxlock O/U action is very nicely filed and features non-automatic safety, intercepting safety sears, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators and double triggers. (front set). Action is engraved with near full coverage germanic scrolling acanthus in semi-relief shaded backgrounds. This very well done engraving surrounds game scenes on sides with a pair of robuck darting through undergrowth while a pheasant takes wing on left. A roaring stag and two hinds are on right. Bottom of action is engraved "ORIGINAL" "Ernst Kerner Bock" on ribbons. Steel trigger guard is also engraved with semi-relief acanthus. Round knob pistol grip buttstock of well streaked European walnut measures 13-3/4" over horn basket weave buttplate. Stock features right hand shadow line cheekpiece, point pattern grip checkering and sling loop on toeline matching the one soldered to bottom barrel. Matching one piece schnabled forend has Deeley release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: O .676. Restriction: O .040 (Extra Full). Wall thickness: O .030. STOCK: DAH: 2-3/4". DAC: 1-1/2". CAST: about 1/2" off. LOP: 13-3/4". WEIGHT: 6 lb. 5 oz. CONDITION: fine. Barrels retaining over 90% original blue with sharp edge wear and scattered marks. Action has case colors faded to silver gray overall, with deeper color visible where protected. Very little wear is evident. Stocks retain most of their original oil finish with a fair number of heavy marks on left side of butt. Checkering on grip is moderately worn. Forend checkering is nearly smooth on left side from carrying while slung. Bores are bright and shiny. Action feels loose with forend removed, is tight with forend installed. Mechanically good.
