PISTOLS BY V. D. FECHT IN ORIGINAL CASE WITH ACCESSORIES. Cal. 47. NSN. Bbl. 9". Browned oct. to ovate swamped bbls. have 7 deep groove rifling. Tops are silver inlaid “V. D. Fecht Jun, A. Berlin” (Johan Diederich “Von Der” Fecht working in Berlin circa 1800-1812). Silver bands are around muzzles. Locks w/ flat plates are fitted w/ serpentine cocks, inset semi-waterproof pans, roller frizzens (roller on feather spring), & feather springs w/ shaped bulbous finials w/ teats. Lockplates, cocks, & frizzens are border engraved in ribbon pattern. Lockplate on Gun no. 1 (marked on rear tangs) engraved “IN BERLIN; on pistol No. 2, “J.D. FECHT JUN”. Single set triggers fitted. Stocks extend to muzzles w/ horn tips & attach to bbls. w/ side nails through shaped steel escutcheons. Pistols have uniquely tectonic, carved wood trigger guards. Flared & faceted butts have faceted steel pommels. Grips are carved in fish scale motif in place of checkering which has nicely carved mullered borders. 2 Piece sideplates are well shaped & engraved. Boxwood ramrods w/ horn tips are each held by one beaded pipe & matching thimble w/ pinecone finial. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original, black Morocco leather covered wooden case lined in dark green cloth. Bottom compartment is French fitted for guns & accessories & individual trays are outlined in herring bone woven banding. Accessories include pressed horn powder flask, boxwood loading hammer, maple handled combination takedown & top jaw wrench, steel bullet mold casting 43 Cal. rnd. ball, steel powder measure & 2 maple loading rods. There are 2 covered compartments, one containing tow & the other cast lead balls. Consignor states these pistols were brought back from WWII by Master SGT. Cliff Foster. CONDITION: exceptionally fine, appearing to be all original, but w/ a coat of spray lacquer on locks & bbls. & spray over on stocks. Barrels retaining 90% of what appears to be their original brown. Locks have nearly all original French gray. Barrel tangs & mounting screws have a lg. amount of temper blue & stocks retain over 90% of what appears to be their original French polish finish. Carving on grips has darkened. Bores are bright & shiny. Locks are crisp. Triggers do not set, probably need adjustment. Exterior of case is considerably rubbed and marked w/ some loss to leather, retaining hooks are missing. Interior cloth is good w/ compressions & rubs plus w/ a bit of insect damage in one corner.
