Generally, outfitters do not allow back to back donation hunts, so even if the description is not explicit, do not buy more than one hunt per country! If you want to string together two or more hunts, you must gain the approval of all outfitters ahead of bidding.
There is an implicit stipulation that any donation is for new customers only. Check with your outfitter!
Dave Lakeman has generously donated a handcrafted custom knife for SCI Calgary’s auction. Though each creation of Dave’s is different, his work is easily recognized.

This blade is Damascus design made from a recycled bandsaw blade (1095 steel) and metal pallet strapping (5160 steel). These two were layered up and forge welded. They were then drilled and hammered out to produce the raindrop pattern. The copper in the handle is from a buzzbar in an industrial electrical panel. The main portion of the handle is deer antler accented with leather and layered red G10 and secured with epoxy and a brass pin.

The sheath is 7-9 oz veggie tanned leather. It is hand stamped and hand-stitched. Dave uses only solid metal rivets that are peened so they should never fail. The blade itself took about 10 hours to create, with the entire build totalling over 18 hours.

Dave works out of his garage in Strathmore Alberta. He has been bladesmithing full time for over five years now. He was always very creative, and after a work injury that left him with decreased mobility, he found the time to focus on an interest he loved. He started making and gathering the tools necessary to forge knives. From the beginning, he learned to do everything involved with the complete process himself. He hand-forged blades from repurposed steel, and mastered forge welding metals to make Damascus.

All the steel he uses is repurposed materials. He tests the steel to confirm it will make an exceptional blade. He finds leaf springs, ground engaging steel and old files and rasps are some of the best metal to use. Dave also prefers to make his handles by casting resin into unique designs from paper to fabrics and self-gathered organic materials like pine cones and mosses. He also makes his sheaths from veggie tan leather. Due to the individual attention to each knife, they are all unique and one of a kind.
