Samuel Stanhope Smith (1751-1819) was an American Presbyterian minister, academic, and educator. He was the seventh president of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) and served in that role from 1795 to 1812. During his tenure as president of Princeton, Smith delivered a series of handwritten lectures on various topics, including moral philosophy, theology, and political economy. The lectures were written in a clear and engaging style and were highly regarded by his students and colleagues. The lectures covered a wide range of topics, from the principles of moral and political philosophy to the nature of the human mind and the relationship between reason and faith. Smith& #39;s handwritten lectures were published posthumously in 1821, under the title & #34;Lectures on the Evidences of Christianity, in the Nineteenth Century.& #34; The book includes lectures on a range of topics, including the authenticity and credibility of the New Testament, the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the philosophical arguments for the existence of God.
