Hartford Pope No. 0.2 Winchester Deluxe Highwall Rifle
This rifle was originally manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 32-40 caliber with a number 4 barrel. It has been re-barreled by Harry M. Pope at Hartford, Connecticut at an unknown date and rechambered to 39-55 caliber. Rifle's in-depth history is explained on page 376 of Warren Greatbatch's book, "H. M. Pope Hartford 1887-1901 Volume II". The rifle has a 32" round No. 3 weight barrel in 39-55 caliber marked "Rifled by H. M. Pope Hartford, Conn." with Wind gage front sight, no rear sight provision and a Soule tang sight serial numbered "54" . Barrel has unmarked Pope false muzzle and brass bullet starter with underside of barrel marked "16/94". Case-hardened flat spring Highwall action with close couple double set triggers and standard lever. Walnut checkered Schuetzen pistol grip stock with nickel plated Swiss butt plate. Butt stock appears to be work of A. O. Zischang. Standard Winchester checkered Deluxe splinter Schnabel forearm with Tuning Fork palm rest. Rifle comes with Cody Research stating original configuration. Rifle also comes with Pope grease pump, Pope mold, re and decapper, and bullet seater. J.T. Livengood Collection. CALIBER: 39-55. CONDITION
90% blue with light handling and freckling marks. 90% original vivid case colors. 90% original varnish with sharp checkering. Good bore and mechanics with tools in good condition.
