Hartford Pope Number 360 Winchester Deluxe Highwall Rifle with Sidle Scope
Made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1900 and shipped with "No Marks" and "No Rifling", according to Cody Research Letter, which suggests either shipped to customer with the intention of going to Pope or shipped directly to H.M. Pope in Hartford, Connecticut for him to rifle. Rifle has a blued 30" No. 4 marked octagon barrel in 32-40 with Pope rifling and is stamped with "H.M. Pope Hartford Connecticut" on top barrel flat and "360" under the forearm. Barrel is machined for Pope false muzzle but this item is missing. Letter states barrel is fitted for Wind gage front sight without a level and a Mid-Range tang sight with no rear sight provision. Front sight is a period replacement, possibly by the shooter since it has a level. The barrel is fitted with a full length 3/4" tube J.W. Sidle scope with brass mounts. Blued thin side flat spring action with single set trigger and stamped case-hardened lever. Walnut checkered pistol grip stock with Swiss butt plate and a Winchester grip cap. Matching Deluxe checkered Schnabel splinter forearm with ebony tip inlay. Rifle is mentioned in H.M. Pope, Volume II on Page 344. Cody Research verifies all options except scope and Pope work. Comes with Pope grease pump and Hartford Pope mold. J.T. Livengood Collection. CALIBER: 32-40. S/N: 86632. FFL STATUS: Curio & Relic.
