HERITAGE TAG AUCTION - 2022 Nevada Wildlife Heritage Tage #1 Desert (Nelson) Bighorn Sheep
Dates: July 1 - December 31, 2022 except for units involving Department of Defense Lands (Units 252, and 280 – 282, and those portions of Unit 181 on the Naval Air Station) which may only be hunted during their season dates set by the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners

Area: This tag is good for any units open to hunting desert bighorn sheep; there are no specific units restricted in 2022 from prior year Heritage tag harvest

Nevada has 314 mountain ranges, more than any other lower 48 state, and more desert bighorn sheep than any other jurisdiction in North America. This vast and rugged canvas of both the Mojave and Great Basin deserts are naturally suited to harbor wild sheep. Through the vision of wildlife biologists and passionate support from sportsmen, bighorn sheep restoration efforts have helped increase Nevada’s desert bighorn population from its low of 2,500 in 1960 to over 8,000! Though total bighorn numbers have been depressed in recent years, there still are plenty of great rams to hunt. The most recent harvest data from the 2021 season was 288 rams harvested with 18 rams 170+ B&C from 11 different hunt units. At least 2 rams scoring 180 B&C were taken in 2021. Standard tag eligibility provisions do not apply to this tag. The 2022 Nelson Desert Bighorn Heritage Tag is good in all open desert bighorn sheep hunt units (51 units).
