Historic lot of 2 U.S. Officer’s swords, both inscribed to E. B. Knox; one sword shows the inscription “Presented to/Colonel Edward B. Knox/by the Officers and Men of the First Infantry, I.N.G./as a slight testimonial oftheir appreciation of his zeal/and untiring labor in behalf of the regiment/Sept. 16th, 1884.” This sword and scabbard are un-cleaned, the blade is etched, made by Thompson & Wetmore, Chicago, Ill. and alsoincluded in the etching is “Colonel E. B. Knox” on the right side of the blade. The second sword and scabbard are made by Miller of New York with an etched blade and inscribed under the right hand guard “Capt.E.B. Knox/from members of Company B, I.N.G./Dec. 28th, 1874”. Edward Burgin Knox began his service in the Civil War with the famous New York 11th Infantry (1st Fire Zouaves), enlisting on April 20th, 1861, as a First Lieutenant. He was called to the scene of the infamous killing of friend, Colonel Elmer E. Ellsworth by the proprietor (a Confederate sympathizer) at the Alexandria, VA Marshall House where Ellsworth
