This WWII USAAF grouping belonged to Lt. George "Ray" Schoenfeldt. He was a P-51 Mustang pilot at the end of the war and flew 4 combat escort missions with B-17s. He was in the 84th Fighter squadron and the 78th Fighter Group. He escorted on the famous Berchtesgaden bombing raid in April 1945. At the end of the war, he was in Germany till 1946 and was part of the process of getting US planes back to USA and occupation force. This very large grouping includes these highlights 1) Leather 84th Fighter squadron patch cut from his A-2 jacket. 2) Pinks and Green 4 pocket tunic with bullion 8th and 9th Air Force patches. Named and dated with sterling clutchback wings. 3) Named "SHONEY" British flight helmet with avionics and A-14 oxygen mask. 4) 5 silk survival maps 43E/C, 43C/D, 43E/F in pouch, 43C/D in pouch, Sealed! F map in pouch and two button size escape compasses. 5) 16mm Bell & Howell aircraft camera. In addition: 3 officer khaki shirts with 3" wings on one, 1 chocolate brown shirt, Unmarked G-1 Navy flight jacket with no cuffs and the zipper works. 2 overseas caps, 4 ties, 1941 dated British flight gloves, size 34 summer flight suit, size 38 A-4 flight suit, Summer A series flight suit, A10 flight pants, officer mackinaw coat, bolt of "greens" uniform material (54"x68") and same size bolt of "pinks" material (54"x68"), 32" x 32" silk camo parachute material, 2 silk camo parachute cut scarves, 4 types of ditty and duffel bags, B-3 flight bag, 2 musette bags, canteen, and George's brother's B-3 flight bag...The smaller items include Plexi box dated 1945-46, US match safe with compass, British anti-dimming cloth in tin, trench art lighter with 8th AF patch, British oxygen bag/tube, named Polaroid flight goggles in box, Office door Green Plexi name plate, PX pillow case, Aluminum P-51 Mustang model, Black rubber ID model, Over 35 German Marks notes and coins, German police Shako eagle, German civilian gas mask in poor condition. Also includes over 100 pages of his service, over 160 photo album of service stateside, over 200 photos in Germany with both German and US planes, nose art, manuals, newspapers and magazines, training year book, three 3" pilot wings, cap badges and AF collar devices and much more - see photos.
