INDIAN FLINTLOCK TRADE FOWLER.
Cal. 60. NSN. Bbl. 30”. Classic Northwest Indian trade musket, middle to late 19th century w/ 3 screw serpentine sideplate & Hudson Bay Company tombstone marking under pan on lock. Tail of lock marked “Barnett / 1857”, 3 stage oct. to rnd. bbl. w/ wedding ring transitions has proofs at breech. Gun has lg., oversized iron trigger guard & had a nailed buttplate which has been long gone during its time of use. Originally this arm started out as a musket but has been shortened in its time of use w/ forestock reshaped, retained by single pin. Bracket for a forward pin on bottom of bbl. are filed away about 6" from muzzle. There is a contemporary rawhide repair at wrist w/ original look. Cock has flint tied in w/ string which also appears to be period. All in all, this old fowler appears in the same original configuration as it was last used. CONDITION: good to very good overall, bbl. still retains traces of original blue, iron overall is plum/brown patina, numerous sm. slash marks on top of bbl. at mid length, stock is sound w/ wrist repair as noted, hand worn patina to butt & forearm, frizzen was relined during its period of use, mechanically functional w/ clear smooth bore, serpentine sideplate is heavily worn w/ dark dirty olive patina.
