"G" DATE P.08 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 5599d. Bbl. 4". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser in 1935. Top of the bbl. extension is marked with Mauser's clandestine "G" date code, with the left side exhibiting a distinctive Russian "X" captured mark preceding the S#. Mauser arsenal proofs on the right side of the bbl. extension have been ground off. Toggle is marked with Mauser's "S/42" mfg. code. Underside of bbl. is marked "Kal. 9mmP.", followed by a post-war German Eagle/N commercial nitro proof, which is also present on the underside of the bbl. extension. Interior of frame is marked with a German Eagle/N proof, followed by a Mellrichstadt Proof House stamp, and a shielded "IF" (85) date code, indicating that this example was imported back into Germany in 1985, explaining the removal of the original arsenal proofs on the bbl. extension. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish, with some smaller components exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted wiht 2-piece checkered wood grips. Most numbers are matching and are present on the frame, takedown lever, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl., bbl. extension, as well as the trigger bar. Toggle assembly does not match, but matches itself. Mag. and rear toggle pin are mismatched, with the grips being unnumbered. MAGS: 1 8-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1 reproduction black leather P.38 holster, containing 1 8-rd. P.38 mag. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original arsenal rust blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning overall that show through to gray patina, with scattered marks from handling and storage. Strawed components exhibit varying degrees of wear, with worn areas exhibiting a gray patina and scattered spots of age related discoloration. Bright bore, exhibiting mild to moderate pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips exhibit moderate smoothing and some scattered nicks and marks to the diamonds, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Left grip panel exhibits a chip at the usual area, to the rear of the safety lever. Reproduction holster is very good overall. A interesting example of a well traveled Mauser "G" date P.08 Luger.
