J.H. Johnston Kentucky Percussion Rifle Numbered 200.
Percussion Kentucky rifle made by John H. Johnston of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, circa 1850. An interesting note on this rifle is that the breech is stamped "200". Could this possibly indicate his 200th rifle? Only history knows. 41-1/2" rifled octagon barrel in 38 caliber with hunting sights. The barrel is beautifully signed in script "J.H. Johnston". Commercial engraved unmarked percussion lock with double set trigger control and engraved brass sideplate. Full dark piano finish curly maple stock with brass hardware including typical raised dome patchbox lid with "Fire Pylon" engraving and oval floral finial. Stock has German silver half circle inlay on cheek and two German silver diamond forestock inlays. Comes with original hardwood ramrod with threaded tip. CALIBER: 38. FFL STATUS: Antique.
CONDITION
Overall very good with barrel exhibiting original "In the White" finish with light areas of corrosion. Stock has 90% of original dark piano finish with usage marks and dings. Good sharp rifled bore with light pitting and crisp mechanics. A nice all original rifle.
