LIGHT GAME GUN. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 18559. (CA 1905). The 28" chopper lump barrels are engraved with Purdey's Audley House address and Whitworth steel info on narrow game rib, rear portion of rib is engraved "1" which matches "1" on top lever and forend iron. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2 1/2" chambers. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with S#s. Bottom of left barrel is stamped "CHOKE" and with barrel maker's initals "S.S." (Sam Simons). Tube numbers "32297 & 98" are on loop. Case hardened Beesley patent self-opening sidelock action features non-automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, engraved arrow tumbler end cocking indicators and Miller single trigger. Action and lockplates are engraved in Purdey house style rose and scroll, lockplates are engraved "J. Purdey & Sons". Bottom of action is engraved "Purdey's Patent". Trigger guard with scroll on bow has S# on tang which extends to small horn grip cap. Pistol grip buttstock of nicely marbled and well figured European walnut measures 15 3/8" over brown leather covered Silver pad over 1" figured wood extension (original wood measures 13 1/2"). Stock features drop points, point pattern checkering and vacant silver oval. Matching splinter Wem ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .734. R .736. CONDITION: very good, barrels retaining nearly all of a good quality reblue, engraving is somewhat softened, action and lockplates retain about 30% original case hardening color fading to silver and gray. Engraving remains clear. Trigger guard and top lever retain most of their reblue. Stocks retain some original finish with many light marks and show considerable wear on drop points and sharp edges, checkering compentently recut. Bores are bright and shiny without noted problems, chambers lengthened, action is tight, barrels are on face, drop is good, ejectors are in time, replaced trigger works well (intercepting safetys were removed).
