SABER. 1) KYU-GUNTO. Overall length: 39 3/4". Blade length: 23”. Blade has a straight hamon with a gold-plated brass habaki. Gilded brass tsuka in the style of Russo-Japanese mounts. The backstrap shows a 10-petal cherry blossom, denoting use by the Army. There is also a silver mon on the top of the backstrap that shows two Japanese characters. White same grip with wire wrap. There is a brown tassel attached to the knuckle bow near the pommel. Chrome-plated saya. CONDITION: blade has a good polish. Tsuka shows light wear overall, as does the saya. Tassel shows very light wear. 2) PARADE SABER. Overall length: 37 1/4". Blade length: 30 1/2". Blade has a simulated, irregular hamon. Gilded brass tsuka with a 10-petal cherry blossom on the backstrap, indicating use by the Army. Wire-wrapped, black composite grip. Partial blue/brown tassel. Plated saya. CONDITION: blade shows original factory polish. Tsuka retains only traces of original gilding but otherwise exhibits light wear. Saya has some minor loss of finish. (02-23217-3/BF). $600-900.
