JAPANESE MATCHLOCK PISTOL.
Cal. 40. NSN. Bbl. 4 1/8" octagon. Also known as a Tanegashima; the matchlock utilizes an "S" shaped "arm" or serpentine that held a match & was lowered to the pan to fire the pistol via a simple trigger. A precursor to the flintlock; this pistol is made of brass w/ an elaborate design on the Bbl. flats. Decorative brass "rosette" left stock flat w/ brass sideplate that holds the arm right side. Simple fixed front & rear sights. Smooth wooden stock w/ wood ramrod secured under the Bbl. A single pin near the muzzle & lone brass band secure the action to the stock. CONDITION: arm & pan move freely w/ no tension & the trigger moves slightly but again w/ no tension. Brass has tarnished & darkened. Stock shows light dings & dents.
