JM Cooper Pocket Model .36 Cal, SN: 4732
Double action black powder cap and ball "pocket" revolver. Produced as a competitor to the Colt revolvers, manufactured sometime between 1860 and 1869, likely circa 1863-64. Features a 5" octagon barrel with loading lever, 5 shot unfluted cylinder, brass grip straps, brass post front sight. (Worn) Bore is poor to fair condition, with pitting throughout, visible rifling remaining. Most metal surfaces are dull gray or patina brown over bare metal. Right side of frame shows vigorous cleaning. The brass trigger guard appears cleaned, with the backstrap showing a mellow darker patina color. The one piece walnut grip is fair condition, solid, with many nicks and dents, shrinkage all around. The barrel wedge is a later replacement, wrong size so the barrel is loose. The trigger will not advance the cylinder, it will operate the hammer in double action only, with improper indexing and poor locking. Single action operation is not correct. Barrel markings show some erosion. Numbered "4732" on triggerguard, & cylinder."14948" on butt. Has a couple of newer replaced screws. Fairly rare, many of these were used in the US Civil War. It appears the hand, and cylinder stop are missing. There are two notches cut in the left grip, appears period done.
Condition is NRA Fair. Antique Firearm.
