SERIAL NUMBER N/A BARREL 6 1/4" CALIBER .42 SMOOTHBORE MANUFACTURED CIRCA 1780. Produced in Regensburg Germany by Johan Andreas Kutchenreuter who was a contemporary to Boutet and a purveyor of embellished best quality arms to royalty. The Kutchenreuter family manufactured arms for many generations. The highly embellished pistol with gold & silver inlays is signed "JOH, IAC, KUTCHENREUTER" in silver on a flat rib, The barrel is relief engraved with a games scene of a stag in a woodland background surrounded by scrolls. The heavily relief carved walnut stock is carved with broad borders and scrolls surrounding the lock plate, rod fullers butt cap and tang. The round body flint lock is relief engraved with a single hound in pursuit of a stage while the cock is engraved with scrolls. The gold washed butt cap and wrist escutcheon are both relief carved with a rendition of the Greek Goddess of hunting and animals, Artemis with her bow surrounded by deep scroll and vine motif. The left side plate is relief engraved in a very similar rendition of Artemis with her bow and surrounded by a hound and foliage. The gold washed trigger guard is relief engraved with a sportsman with his long gun and a felled stag amongst a woodland background. The pistol is equipped with a single set trigger , 2 rod ferrules that are lightly engraved and gold washed and a wooden loading rod with horn tip. CONDITION, Very good with fine wood stocks and metal having a very light mixture of uncleaned patina. The lock and trigger mechanisms operates properly. ANTIQUE
