Imagine hunting in Yukon’s iconic natural treasure surrounded by an immense landscape of premier sheep mountains engraved by historic glaciers and dusted with northern beauty. You will get to live your dream with an exclusive opportunity for a magnificent Dall sheep in the northwest corner of the spectacular Kluane Game Sanctuary which borders Kluane National Park.
The Kluane First Nation (KFN) is proud to bring back the 2016 Kluane Permit to the Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF).
We are excited to continue to have respected outfitter David Dickson of Dickson Outfitters Ltd. and crew as the contracted qualified outfitter and guide services to deliver this spectacular sheep hunt in the Kluane Special Sheep Guiding Opportunity area. The Dickson crew have many combined years of sheep hunting experience and are dedicated and committed to the success of this hunt. In addition to having their own supplies, horses and equipment, by the time you arrive the Dickson crew will have already scouted these mountain ranges throughout this permit area and will know where you will be hunting.
In past years outstanding Rams have been harvested with scores of 175 and as high as 1806/8 B&C. The genetics are there to continue to produce these outstanding high scoring Dall Rams.
With our milder winters and early springs we are seeing exceptional horn growth in the young
Rams and older Rams living longer which means the opportunities for you the hunter to harvest one of these big old magnificent Rams.
The successful bidder will be awarded one non-resident Dall Sheep Permit to hunt in the specified area of 990 km² of premier sheep country. This exclusive sheep permit is a benefit of the KFN Land Claims Agreement; there are only thirty (30) permits within forty-two (42) years
(2004-2046) available in this special permit area. This will be the 9th sheep tag only available at this year’s WSF auction.
All necessary forms and logistic arrangements will be completed in advance of the hunt. Permit rules and regulations are set by the Yukon Government’s Department of Environment and Kluane First Nation, and will be adhered to by Dickson Outfitters and the successful bidder. The permit is not transferable to any other person or entity and is non-refundable. The purchaser is responsible for airfare to travel to and from Whitehorse, Yukon, hotels, meals, incidentals prior to and after hunt in Whitehorse, gratuity and all taxidermy costs including shipping from Yukon, trophy fee’s after hunt to government ($263.00). A non-hunter is not included but the price can be negotiated with the outfitter.
A percentage of the overall sale price of the permit will go back to KFN for the purpose(s) of conservation to support projects and activities for wildlife and wildlife habitat in the KFN’s
Traditional Territory as outlined in KFN’s Final Agreement, and 10% of the purchase price will go to WSF to cover reasonable expenses incurred with this permit.
50% of the price paid for the SSGO goes to cover the marketing expenses and the costs for the hunt. The remaining 50% is used for the purposes of conservation of wildlife and wildlife habitat in the Kluane First Nation Traditional Territory. This past year the fund was used to subsidize the Wildlife Monitor Position and the Trapper’s Incentive Fund. This year the fund is being utilized for the Wildlife Monitor positions, the Trapper’s Incentive Fund and possibly for another moose survey.
Come experience the richness the Kluane region has to offer. Owner of Dickson Outfitters and representatives from Kluane First Nation will be available anytime during the convention to provide more details and information regarding this permit hunt. Interested parties are encouraged to stop by our booth to introduce yourself, ask questions, and hear about incredible sheep hunting.
