Civil War Era B. Kittredge & Co.-marked Frank Wesson Two-Trigger Single Shot Tip-Up Military Carbine, #3459, .44 RF cal., 24'' blued octagonal barrel is marked on top flat ''F. Wesson's Patent/Oct. 25, 1859 & Nov. 11, 1862'' in two lines ahead of ''B. Kittredge & Co./Cincinnati, O'' (the latter faint) in two lines, has dovetailed blade front sight, single-leaf rear sight, and sling swivel mount dovetailed midway beneath; steel receiver with distinctive two triggers (front trigger releases barrel) and scrolled triggerguard with long rear tang mounted with sling swivel; varnished walnut buttstock with brass crescent buttplate. Mfg'd 1859-88. Condition is very good to fine, the barrel retaining approx. 75% thinning blue (cleaned on top flat ahead of breech to reveal lettering); no original finish to cleaned receiver; smooth blue-brown patina to triggerguard; and aged brass patina to buttplate. Buttstock is smooth and sound showing minor nicking from age and use, with approx. 90% original varnish finish and nice color. Missing the under-barrel sling swivel (the dovetailed mount is intact). Action functions smoothly; bore is clean with deep rifling. The Ohio firm of Benjamin Kittredge & Co. is known to have furnished over 2,000 of these Frank Wesson military carbines to Missouri, Kansas, Indiana and Kentucky state units. Est.: $1,000-$2,000.
