London Small Arms Co., British military magazine fed bolt action service rifle chambered in .303 British. Manufactured circa 1896. Features a blued finish, 30.2" barrel, ramped blade front sight, screw adjustable rear sight marked (SUTHERLAND RIFLE SIGHT Co Ltd, NEW GLASGOW N.S) on the top side and Patented April 18, 05 also March 22, 04 & May 21, 07 & a crown over 2 graduated to 1800yds, two barrel bands with the front incorporating the bayonet lug, and sling swivel, no cleaning rod, serrated trigger, detachable magazine, magazine cut off on the right side of the receiver, dust cover and manual safety on the bolt, marked British issue web sling, smooth wood hand-guard, full length forend, and straight grip shoulder stock with brass trapdoor buttplate. The right side of the butt socket is marked '[crown]/VR/B.S.A. Co. Ld/1896/L.E/1'. The stock is marked 'M&D/circular "London" cartouche/I/1'. The barrel is stamped 'E' over the chamber and the buttplate shows " 5 C A 266'. Rifle exhibits a mostly golden brown patina with some traces of blue on barrel, dust cover, and magazine. Action is smooth, bore is good, strong rifling and the wood stocks are very good+ with blemishes. No import marks.
