This lot includes a huge amount of material, all used or collected by CWO Thompson, a black American, serving in WWII and, apparently, mailed home to his wife in a metal footlocker. The footlocker measures approx. 28 1/2" x 14 1/2" x 14" and is stenciled on both sides "MRS. ELISE THOMPSON 95EGE AVE JERSEY CITY 5 N.J." We will endeavor to mention many items in this lot, but to truly appreciate the scope, this lot should be inspected in person if possible. This lot includes 1 banner holding an American Campaign Medal, an ETO Campaign Medal, a WWII Victory Medal, and an Army of Occupation Medal. / 1 Pair of military-issued glasses. / 1 Box of pen nibs. / 1 Small box containing numerous buttons, pins, clips, safety pins, and other small trinkets of use to a soldier overseas. / 1 ETO Campaign Medal. / 2 American Campaign Medals. / 1 WWII Victory Medal. / Approx. 15 mostly divisional WWII patches. / 1 Notebook. / 1 Small pile of approx. 35 pieces of occupation currency. / 1 Tin box containing pottery fragments, likely from an archaeological excavation, along with 43 small, ancient to 18th century coins. / 1 Metal box containing a notebook, matches, a 1946 diary, and other ephemera. / 1 Brass charger, measuring 11" in diameter, that reads "COMPLIMENTS OF USAPI CWO R.M. THOMPSON 1959-60." / 1 Army Commendation Medal in original box. / 3 American Campaign Medals in original boxes. / 3 European Theater Campaign Medals in original boxes. / Approx. 25 French opera programs. / 1 Interesting, portable 3-drawer case that holds hundreds of photographic slides that appear to have been taken primarily in Europe. / 1 Larger portable case holding approx. 500 photographic slides relating to the life and service of CWO Thompson. / 1 Wooden file box containing a collection of stamps, mostly from European countries, along with a few other pieces of ephemera. / 1 Group of approx. 12 tour books from various famous sights in Europe, including Florence, Venice, Reims, and Switzerland. / 1 Small apparatus for viewing photographic slides. / 1 Desk plate that reads "PERSONNEL OFFICER". / 1 Wooden desk plate that reads "Richard M. Thompson CWO. U.S.A." / 1 Wooden door plate that reads "Richard M. Thompson CWO. U.S.A." / 1 Desk plate that reads "INCHON KOREA". / 1 Large group of ephemera collected by CWO Thompson during his military service. Most of the pieces are from Europe, but there are some from the far East and even a few from Russia. CONDITION: of course, condition varies greatly on many of the paper items, but most have survived quite well during storage in this footlocker. Other items generally show light wear.
