LARGE GROUP OF US BAYONETS, KNIVES, & MACHETES.
1) M6 bayonet in sealed plastic bag and cardboard box. CONDITION: bag shows mild superficial wear. Box show a small hole in the rear, but is otherwise very good. 2), 3), & 4) M6 bayonets sealed in original marvelseal packaging. CONDITION: packaging all exhibits mild exterior staining, but is otherwise very good. 5) USMC WWII bolo machete manufactured by Clyde Cutlery. Left side stamped "U.S.M.C." followed by a Clyde Cutlery logo. Riveted 2 piece wood grips. Brown leather sheath manufactured by Boyt in 1945. CONDITION: blade is very good overall, exhibit some sharpening marks, a few nicks to the blade edge, as well as scattered spots of verdigris, seemingly from the sheath. Wood handle bears a small loss on the bottom of the left panel. Sheath exhibits scattered handling marks and some light crazing, but is otherwise sturdy and serviceable. 6) US Vietnam Special Forces bolo machete. Unmarked with matte black finish and a 1 piece smooth wood grip. Green canvas sheath. CONDITION: blade retains the majority of its matte black finish, exhibiting minor wear and flaking overall. Sheath shows scattered handling marks and wear, but remains sturdy and serviceable. 7) Barteaux Vietnam era experimental machete. Steel blade with aluminum handle. Handle is stamped "BARTEAUX/ U.S.A.". Unmarked brown leather sheath. CONDITION: blade exhibits areas of oxidation and discoloration overall. Handle shows some mild discoloration, but is otherwise fine. Sheath shows some scattered handling marks, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. 8) Unmarked KA-BAR knife with standard clip point blade and fuller. Standard guard and pommel with grooved leather grip. Brown leather sheath. CONDITION: blade shows wear to its finish overall, with the blade edge being in poor condition and exhibiting several scattered losses. Grip shows wear, but is otherwise good. Sheath shows scattered wear, with some age related cracking and crazing. 9) Air Force survival knife manufactured by Camillus. Clip point blade, with serrated backstrap, and fuller. Grooved leather grip with faceted pommel. Brown leather sheath with sharpening stone. CONDITION: blade is very good, retaining the majority of its original finish and a fine cutting edge. Guard and pommel show oxidation, but are otherwise good. Grip shows moderate wear. Sheath shows some scattered handling marks and mild wear overall, but remains sturdy and serviceable. 10) Handmade stiletto knife, with spear point pattern blade and fat rounded wood grip. With a US M8A1 sheath by V.P. Co. CONDITION: blade retains a mottled gray patina, with scattered spots of oxidation overall. Handle retains most of its green paint and shows some minor wear and handling marks. 11) US M4 bayonet manufactured by Imperial. Grooved leather grip. With US M8 sheath manufactured by BM CO. CONDITION: blade retains the majority of its finish, exhibiting wear that appears to be from the sheath. Leather grip shows scattered handling marks, but is otherwise good. Sheath shows scattered handling marks and wear overall, but remains sturdy and serviceable. 12) US M4 bayonet without a manufacturer marking. Matte finished blade, with checkered black plastic grip. Allen screw on underside of pommel. Sheath does not retain its metal throat. CONDITION: blade shows scattered handling marks and discoloration from handling and storage. Grip shows a few handling marks, but is otherwise wood. 13) Custom cut down M1 Garand pattern bayonet. Chromed finish with 2 piece grooved black plastic grips. Unmarked brown leather sheath. CONDITION: metal components exhibit discoloration overall, with some scattered spots of oxidation. Grips show scattered impressions, with a crack on the right panel. Sheath shows wear overall, but remains sturdy and serviceable. 14) US Marine Corps utility pocket knife. Aluminum body with brass spacers and steel tools. CONDITION: aluminum and brass components are very good, with steel tools showing wear from use and scattered discoloration. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox.
