LOT OF MAINLY US SPANISH AMERICAN WAR FIELD GEAR.
1) Model 1880 hunting knife manufactured by Springfield Armory. Double edged spearpoint blade with brass guard and grooved wood handle. Brass guard is stamped "2964" on one side with "U.S./ SPRINGFIELD" on the other side. Brown leather scabbard is stamped "R.I.A." on the rear of the brass belt hook. CONDITION: blade shows scattered areas of pitting and dark discoloration, with some sharpening marks along the blade edge. Brass guard and bras components on scabbard exhibit a pleasing mellow patina. Grip shows some scattered handling marks, but otherwise is good. Leather scabbard remains malleable, exhibiting some minor marks from handling and storage. Model 1892 Krag Jorgensen bayonet. Left side of ricasso is stamped with the year of manufacture "1897", with "US" stamped on the right. 11 - 5/8" blade with fuller and bird's head grip pommel. 2 piece smooth wood grips. Blued scabbard and hanger. CONDITION: very good overall, with the blade exhibiting some light discoloration, and the guard and pommel showing mild scattered spots of darker discoloration overall. Grip shows a few minor impressions, but is otherwise very good. Scabbard shows some scattered spots of oxidation, but otherwise retains the majority of its arsenal blue finish. 3) Mills cartridge belt with brass "NGP" H-buckle containing 58 rounds of .30-40 Krag ammunition. Blue woven canvas with brass fittings. CONDITION: very good overall, with brass components exhibiting a pleasing mellow patina. 4) Brown leather belt with United States Spanish American War "USV" brass plate belt buckle and hanger. CONDITION: very good, with patina to the brass plate buckle and mild crazing to the leather overall. 5) .38 Caliber 12 round ammunition box manufactured by Rock Island Arsenal in 1908. Backside is stamped "ROCK ISLAND/ ARSENAL/ 1908/ T.C.C.", with "US" on the closure flap. "J.H.H." inspector stamp on interior of pouch. Accompanied by several period photographs of US soldiers as well as a 1901 dated manual for the Model 1898 Krag rifle. CONDITION: pouch shows minor crazing and age related cracking, but otherwise remains malleable. Book shows age related discoloration and some storage and handling marks, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. 6) Indeterminate German gray canvas pouch. Ink stamped on interior of closure flap. CONDITION: canvas exhibits wear and discoloration overall. Lether remains malleable. (02-18939/MLW) $300-500.
