DESCRIPTION
Lot includes twenty first day of issue covers of western heroes including Annie Oakley, Chief Joseph, William "Buffalo Bill" Cody, and Bill Picket. Postmarked October 18, 1994, Laramie, Wyoming. Includes three sets of stamps from the same series, one with accompanying postmark. One pane of stamps erroneously features the likeness of Bill Pickett's brother, Ben Pickett. Some concerns were raised by collectors, though the set was nonetheless printed. Once news had reached the management of the contracted printing company, the United States Postal Service (USPS) issued a recall for 5,201,000 panes, with the intent to destroy them. However, it appears that only 183 were actually sold, some of which were brokered before the official release date. After an uproar by collectors and desire to recoup some of the printing cost, the USPS decided to release 150,000 of the original panes. **Fine condition overall. Only minor wear to edges and corners.** $100-$300
