Lehigh County, Pennsylvania Kentucky Rifle with Liberty Cap Finial.
Unique percussion Kentucky rifle attributed to the Lehigh County area of PA., circa 1840. Rifle measures 51" overall with 35-1/2" octagon 38 caliber rifled barrel with rifle sights and typical Lehigh "Double Lines" in front and back of rear sight. Floral engraved percussion lock with double set trigger control. Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including a four piece patchbox with floral engraved lid, bone toe plate release button and unique "Liberty Cap" or "Indian" finial. Stock also has silver diamond inlay and two brass diamond forestock inlays. Comes with original hardwood ramrod, in poor condition. CALIBER: 38. FFL STATUS: Antique.
CONDITION
Overall good with forestock replaced from tailpipe out. Hinge on patchbox has been soldered at one time. Metal has turned to plum patina with usual age pitting. Brass is unpolished and is a golden patina. Wood has traces of original finish on butt with finish nicely matched on replaced area. Dark bore with hammer not holding.
