Lot consisting of Chinese Sword and Tibetan Knife: (1) Chinese Short Sword, with a 16'' double-edged blade having a central ridge; guard is cast brass with a round Chinese symbol and floral decorations. Fluted wood grip has a hole near the top with wrist thong through it. Pommel is cast brass with the same round Chinese symbol in the center and decorations of bats. Wood scabbard is covered in a translucent celluloid material (mostly missing in the center) with brass fittings at the top, middle (hanger), and bottom. Scabbard fittings are decorated with the round Chinese symbol, floral designs, and bats. Blade has age graying, light rust, minor pitting, and a couple of edge nicks. Handle fittings show a dark brass patina and light wear. Wood grip has some scuffs and scratches, and is nice and tight to the blade tang. There is play in the crossguard. Scabbard has lost some of its yellow paint in the center and has large chips and losses to the celluloid covering. (2) Tibetan Knife and bone chopstick. Blade is 6-7/8'' long with a single sharp edge and short point tip. There is a two-character signature at the base of the blade. Handle has brass ferrules at the top and bottom and is covered in green dyed rayskin. Scabbard is also covered in green dyed rayskin with brass mounts around the scabbard body and at both ends. There is a ring at the top fitting. One bone short chopstick is present, with small round holes in the scabbard mouth for two other pieces that are not present. These are made as eating utensils, with a knife and two chopsticks. Blade has some rust spots and minor pitting. Rayskin covering of the handle and scabbard is in good condition with a couple of minor chips. There are three small rectangular slots cut into the scabbard for mounting. Est.: $250-$400/lot.
