Lot of Two (2) Swords: (1) Weimar Period German Lion's head Cavalry sword, with 31'' bright nickel-plated blade, with maker's mark from W.K.C. with a knight's head. Hilt is gold-gilded brass with a nicely decorated crossguard featuring crossed swords in the front langet, a lion's head pommel, and decorated backstrap. Grip is black composition with triple twisted silver wire wrapping. There is a large gold knot with a leather strap, but the strap is broken and in need of repair. Scabbard is black painted steel. Condition is very good with light age and fading to the gold gilt finish on the hilt. Blade is near mint and bright. Grip is excellent with all the wire wrapping intact. Original scabbard paint is approx. 90% present with scratches and scuffs from use overall. OAL is 36''. There is a small amulet hanging from the carry ring on the scabbard. (2) Knight's Templar Fraternal Sword, looks to be just post-Civil War, with an etched decorated, double-edged flat-shaped blade measuring 27.5''. There is a maker's mark at the ricasso for ''C. Roby Co., W. Chelmsford Mass.''; name etched in the blade is ''Charles B. Whiling''. Crossguard features an eagle in the center with stars at each end. Grip is ebony wood with a silver cross-shaped logo for the Knights Templar. Pommel is a knight's helmet with feather plume. Hilt fittings are nickel-plated brass. Scabbard is steel, painted black, with nickel-plated fittings at top and bottom. Upper hanger fitting has pierced decorations of a cross and intertwined snake, with the motto of the Knight's Templar. Condition is very good with losses to the paint on the scabbard, numerous chips and scratches from use overall on the body of the scabbard. Fittings show age darkening. Grip has one small chip on the back side at the top. Blade is bright and etching is clear. OAL is 35-3/4''. There is a brown leather sword hanger on one of the rings that probably came with the German sword. Est.: $250-$400/lot.
