Very desirable maker and year. A Model M1860 cavalry saber manufactured by the Mansfield & Lamb Company out of Forestdale, RI in 1862. The sword has a 35", curved, fullered blade that features the makers mark on the ricasso and "U.S., 1862", and inspector G.C.S. is on the reverse. The guard is cast in brass, leather washer intact. The hilt is wrapped in soft leather, only one strand of the wire wrapping intact. Overall good condition, one small nick to the blade, the blade has areas of dark patina, some scattered light pitting, nice patina to the brass. The lower scabbard has a couple of light "door" dents. Markings are crisp/clear.
