M1873 Springfield Rice Chillingsworth combination Trowel (shovel) Bayonet with its original Leather Scabbard with the US Rosette marked "Watervliet Arsenal". Includes wooden handle insert. These unique tools were most famously used at the Battle of the Big Hole in 1877, when US Troops engaged Nez Perce Indians under Chief Joseph. **Overall in Excellent condition. Trowel finish, bayonet handle, wood handle/insert are all excellent showing little to no wear. Finish is pristine for the age. Leather scabbard is excellent shape with the hanger having some cracking but still pliable and intact. Brass tip present and in great shape.** $800-$1,000
