20,900 first type .38 caliber revolver holsters were manufactured at Rock Island Arsenal between 1892-1896. Black bridle leather, embossed "US", Rock Island Arsenal stamp on flap and inspector initials.  Bottom plug has a drain hole. The most noticeable characteristics of the first pattern .38 caliber revolver holster is the narrow belt loop which was designed to accommodate the single loop woven cartridge belt. **Holster shows wear and age with some chipping and cracking. Leather is not brittle though and still pliable. US embossed marking as well as the Rock Island Arsenal mark has faded. Overall good to very good for its age.** $200-$400
