MARLIN MODEL 1893 FACTORY ENGRAVED DELUXE LEVER

ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 38-55. S# 117590. Case colored action with No. 1 factory engraving. Left side of receiver features a circular vignette of a whitetail buck surrounded by fancy borders & highlights of Arabesque scroll. Right side of receiver has fancy borders surrounding Arabesque scroll with a sunburst behind the loading gate. Complimenting scroll continues to the lower receiver, lever & bolsters. Breech block has a series of rolling single line spiral cuts with leaf type highlights. Matching spirals are found along upper surfaces of receiver & top tang. Top of receiver has the "Marlin Safety" trademark. Top tang marked "MODEL / 1893". Although not signed the engraving appears to be the work of Conrad Friedrich Ulrich Jr (1844-1925). Conrad Ulrich did almost all of the Marlin engraving from 1881 to 1910. Bbl. 26" octagon. German silver blade rocky mountain front sight with elevator adjustable sporting rear sight. Full length tubular mag. Capped rifle forearm & S curved pistol grip walnut stock with crescent steel buttplate. Forearm & stock have factory style B point pattern hand checkering. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Marlin letter stating the following: "From our records, we find your Marlin Model 1893 serial number 117,590, was completed at the Marlin factory in New Haven, Connecticut on August 20, 1895. The caliber was .38/55 and it had a 26 inch octagon barrel with a pistol grip stock. We do now know to whom it was shipped". CONDITION: bbl. & mag. tube retain over 80% dull lightly faded original blue showing mild edge wear. Action retains over 50% faded visible case colors with spots of corrosion on sides of lever. Buttplate finish has faded to mottled gray. Top tang screw is replacement. Original wood finish & checkering show normal wear & age related darkening with scattered scratches & marks. Stock has sm. chips around top tang. Bore is bright with sharp rifling having a sm. area of light pitting near muzzle. PROVENANCE: From the life long collection of Robert Runge. (01-21661/DS).
