MAUSER MODEL 1879 REICHS MILITARY REVOLVER.

Cal. 10.55 x 25R. S# 2224. In use by Germany from 1882-1919. Lg. sturdy revolver w/ safety lever yet mfg. w/out extractor requiring removal of cyl. & use of pivot pin to individually remove spent cartridges. Bbl. 7.2" w/ integral inverted V sight blade behind flared muzzle; mostly rnd. (4 5/8") changing to octagon at frame (1"). Mfg. 1882 w/ matching numbered parts throughout, including loading gate and screw heads, except cyl. axle release lever number 10. Note that cyl. axle will not remove due to congealed grease. Sideplate marked Mauser in oval stamping. Left flat of bbl. marked "GF" as is rear of cyl; various sm. assembly proofs throughout. Butt cap regiment marked "B.J(reversed).M.I.6.125." in various fonts on right side; left previously marked & crossed out "B.1.A.P.2.68." Front edge of butt cap has crown "U" proof & rear edge has crown "S". Trigger & hammer are in the white. Smooth European walnut grips. Metal butt cap w/ robust lanyard ring whose loop is also matching numbered. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: good plus dark brown flap holster w/ buckle & strap retention. Dual angled belt loops on back. Lower front mid point of flap marked w/ "ANJ" all over 12 above 88. Underside of flap has 3 or 4 rectangular boxed ink markings. CONDITION: Very good to excellent original brown finish w/ high point wear & touched up frame screws. Thinning w/ early patina of backstrap. Good plus replacement grips numbered "952" w/ handling marks, appearance of oiled refinish; mixture of metal proud of grips plus grips proud of metal. Good bore w/ distinct rifling w/ areas of cleaned light to moderate pitting. Lightly pitted cyl. chambers. Near perfect manual mechanics including safety. A rare opportunity to buy a high condition Mauser marked 1879 Reichs Revolver w/ an original, intact holster. REFERENCE: Page 143 of Muller's Volume I "History and Technology of The European Military Revolver". PROVENANCE: Ex Estate of Rolf H. Muller, sold at the San Francisco Butterfield Auction.
