SERIAL NUMBER: 6179. BARREL: 26". CALIBER: 7.7 JAP. MANUFACTURED: 1944. Series 7 rifle made at Nagoya Arsenal. Mum has been de-faced. Matching serials on the receiver, bayonet lug and bolt (bolt components match as well). Blade front sight with mid war rear sight adjustable to 1500 meters (no AA wings). Original military blued finish. Oiled two piece wood stock. Includes Kokura/National Denki marked Type 30 bayonet and scabbard. Hooked quillion, blued blade and oiled wood grips. CONDITION: Metal is good overall, with an even brown patina having formed throughout. Wood has minor wear and scratches. Chrome lined bore has a gray appearance. Very good rifling retained. Mechanically fine. Bayonet is very good overall. Blade is clean with no signs of sharpening. Outer parts have a brown patina finish. Grips have a few handling marks. Oral history of this weapon from the consignor is that this rifle was taken from a dead Japanese soldier by Pvt. 1st Charles Patterson while taking back the Solomon Islands. He was a leading Forward Reconnaissance Team through the jungle when the came upon 3 Japanese soldiers setting up a machine gun nest. Patterson was the team leader and was caring a Bar rifle and killed all 3 Japanese soldiers before they could react. The rifle was taken from one of the 3 guys that were killed. C&R
