SERIAL 23471. BARREL 19". CALIBER .577 PERCUSSION BREECH LOADING CARBINE. Rare gun is almost unused museum state. Features round blue barrel with British proofs on barrel. Has 1845 date on patent Maynard tape primer door. Patch box and butt plate are brass. Walnut stock. Four folding leaf rear sight blades. British crown proof stamps on tang and barrel breech. Blue finish barrel with case color frame, hammer, lever. Slant breech. Short 3" saddle bar and ring on left side. Blue steel barrel band. Screw heads are true. Peacock blue breech block with undamaged nipple. Condition. Bright bore. Stock has crisp as new cartouche on right side and aside from a few minor impressions, is near mint. Case colors are almost completely intact and bright. Barrel retains 90% blue that is blending butter smooth patina base. Even the barrel band retains 70% blue. Only 6000 produced during the middle of the Crimean war. It would be almost impossible to find a nicer example anywhere. Brass is nicely toned. ANTIQUE
